UK Registered company with a distribution centre in Ireland

Have a complex (or maybe not) question, maybe someone can help out. What is the correct VAT procedure for a UK registered company handling goods in Ireland? How would one need to account for VAT? For example if goods imported from outside EU directly to a warehouse in Ireland, the buyer is a UK business (and fully registered for UK VAT with HMRC). At point of entry would be charged Irish VAT, goods then resold to customers charged UK VAT? How do we reclaim Irish VAT? Or does the UK business apply for Irish VAT for this operation and account for Irish VAT all goods shipped in/out of Ireland? Hope this makes sense and not sure if this would even work this way. Would appreciate if someone can explain this.
