UK Pension query

Hi, I need some advice. I worked in Channel Islands 1992 for several years and was advised by HMRC I would be eligible for UK pension to buy back years/gaps.

I tried completing form online and JY number could not be input because I glitch in systems . I was strongly advised to get a National Insurance Number from the UK and give an explanatory letter to explain worked in Channel Islands and give contribution history.

I never had a gap in employment and returned to work in Ireland . After 9 month wait, following all the advice given by HMRC I was advised I needed to earn stamps pre 1975 jersey has reciprocal agreements with UK and Ireland

I have a option to appeal myself or through a third party - it’s expensive but worth it if successful. Again I was told I’d a very good case. Prior to submitting application to HMRC there was never a mention of pre 1975 plus I was told HOW to get around glitch in system re social security numbers

Hi, I’ve a query regarding UK pension. I can pay class 3 voluntary contributions at the higher rate from 2006-2024 and ongoing. At present only 2024 invoice is appearing with gap . They are working on previous years at present as I hoped to pay Class 2 but didn’t qualify so need to pay class 3

My pension forecast is showing under £5000 pa if full the gaps between 2006-2024 and continue to paying for another 13 years until I retire or reach UK pension age 2038. At class 3 2006-2024 amounts to over £15000 . If I paid 2006-2016 class 3 it would still cost me £8000 + to achieve minimum 10 years contributions

I didn’t get my letter of offer yet explaining breakdown of years or how many I’d have. I managed to log in online which is where I got the above information. Surely my pension forecast figure can’t be right after 30 years NICS? Maybe they gave a forecast for 10 years £4230 pa ?

Would it matter if paying into a work place pension and D stamp in Ireland from 2006 onwards? Maybe that is affecting my pension forecast and why it’s so low. I have until 5th April to pay 10 years which I intend doing but going forward paying NICS is it worth my while?

Contact DWP - we can't answer that question here.

No

Contact DWP and get your forecast. After that, you'll have to decide for yourself.

For my money, its worthwhile; but its your cash not mine.

Hi Niamh, did you ever get a conclusion to this? I also worked in Channel Island in the 1990s and just applied for UK state penion as deadline is looming, however the website would not accept my JY SS number either. Just wondered if you had any useful information as to what can be done. Many thanks Mary

I still don’t know if that’s possible . Waiting for response which could take up to a year now. Possibly can use UK NICS alone if can’t add jersey which don’t think I can
