If you work a 5 day week in Uk from 1/10/07 the entitlement goes up from 20 days to 24 days.

Going up again from 1/4/09 from 24 days to 28 days.

Any chance that ours will go up eventually based on the UK ?

That doesn't include bank holidays so many employees won't be better off.

UK basic 20 days + 8 bhols (incl Good Friday) + 4 from 1/10/07 = 32 days

and from 1/4/09 the total will be 36 days.

Ireland basic 20 days + 10 bhols (incl Good Friday) = 30 days

Lousy!

Eh, the new holiday regulations in the UK are phrased so employers are not required to give staff public holidays off. So when the total new holiday provisions are law in the UK it will be:

current 20 days + 8 new days = 28 days.

In Ireland that's:

current 20 days + 9 public holidays 9 (Good Friday isn't a public holiday) = 29 days.

Full UK situation , including:

"There is no statutory right to time off for bank and public holidays. Any right to time off or extra pay for working on a bank holiday depends on the terms of an employee's contract of employment."

Ireland gets 11 days if you include Good Friday, but many companies don't recognise this.

Where are you getting 11 from, my count is 10 (New Year's day, St Patrick's day, Good Friday (though many people have to take that out of their 20 day entitlement or else work it) Easter Monday, May Day, First Monday in June, First Monday in August, Last Monday in October, Christmas Day & St Stephen's day).

Nige.

Oops - did'nt realise that these days were coming in to replace existing Bank Holidays but it does leave the door open for employers to increase the holidays I suppose.

I get 34 days basic plus 16 bank holidays!
Public sector or banking?

Private sector - american telecoms company.
We used to get 25 days basic, but then my company merged with another company and the number of hours work per year changed, so we got an additional 9 days basic!
I get 16 bank holidays, since I am based in spain.
