Hi,

I am new to the site so pardon me if this topic is already covered elsewhere.

I am due to start work for a UK employer and will be paid in Sterling. However, I will be based here in Ireland full time. How would my taxation work? would I pay UK tax or Irish tax? I believe I would pay Irish tax?

If for example it was possible to choose where I pay my taxes if I had a UK bank account and received my salary into it would this be more employer friendly?

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

If you are Irish resident, working in Ireland, then your employer is obliged to operate the Irish PAYE system on you.

3.2 What happens if a non-Irish employment is exercised wholly in the State?
All of the income is chargeable to tax in the State and all the income is within the PAYE system of deductions at source.

Hi Mandelbrot.

Thank you very much for this. Is it possible for me to operate under the UK tax system do you know?

I kinda already answered that question..! If the work is being done by an Irish resident, in Ireland, why shouldn't it be subject to Irish tax?

As an Irish resident you would be taxable here on your worldwide income, so even if your employer (wrongly) operates UK paye on you, you'll still be liable to Irish tax on it (but with credit given for whatever tax was paid in the UK).
