Turning round piers into square ones

Hi all,

We have two round piers and would like to make them square and to raise one about 8 inches so that they are level. Piers are mass concrete. Is this possible? Would the additional concrete bond with the existing pier? We want to hang gates when this is done. Need to get a builder for the job first though....
