I have 10 years experience in IT - my cv is very well laid out also. I aply for all jobs applicable to me on jobserve.com.
Yet no agents get back to me at all. I am based in Dublin but have written at the top of my cv that i am living in London and am available immediately.

I don't understand it.

When I apply for jobs in Dublin with the same cv I get loads of responses.

Am I missing something here?

has anyone else on here experienced such problems in trying to get a job in London?

You lucky to be getting so many responses in Dublin in this current economic crisis perhaps you should consider staying there for another while.

If you want me to confirm the CVs quality foc, feel free to pm me for details, as it's strange that you're not getting any response from London Recs.

Perhaps you could start by going about it in a different way, targeting specific companies that you know employ or have employed people with your skills?

Either way, best of luck to you!

Ya - it's becoming very frustrating to be honest. As I say - in Dublin, agents are back to me straight away. Only 1 agent in London has gotten back to me - I must have applied for close to a hundred jobs over the last fortnight.

The only thing I can think of is that the phone number I give is an Irish one ( I am applying from Ireland) and perhaps they would prefer to give the job to someone already living there.

however - I do have written on the top of my cv that I have relocated to London.

I do know got s fact that my cv is particularly well laid out alsoits all very strange and frustrating.

Is there anyone on here that works as an agent in IT that might be able to give me a clue?

My advice would be to ignore sites like jobserve and deal directly with the agencies. Try and arrange appointments with a couple of consultants. Must of the large Irish recruiters have offices in London as well. If you have have contacts in the Irish agencies, ask them can they set you up with a meeting in London.

agents in the uk... waste of time, I only ever got one interview from them and am at the top of my game at what i do... most of the uk agents are people who carnt find the job they want so go into that instead... no real interest in what they do.. I signed up with about 10-20 at least 3 times during my 10 years in london and got one real interview.. most of the jobs they offer in my industry are fakes to get you on the books. Its all about who you know... friend of a friend stuff thats the best way to get work in london.

Bluemac - may I ask what industry you are in ?

While I take your point on board, Im not sure I follow the logic if it. As in - if agents don't make placements they don't get paid as they are largely paid on commission.

, may I ask what job in IT we are talking about? - Development, QA, Support, Managerial or Architectural? or ERP implementations? I'm planning to do the same sometime down the line - I'm getting emails from UK employers [for contract work] mostly in the QA roles

Bluemac: I'd be interested too to know about the industry, if you can please

I am looking for contract test roles. I have 10 years experience in IT either the last 6 in testing so am experienced in that area.

I get all the automated emails from agents - just no response when I rrply.

A lot of that work has moved to India over the past few years, especially from the more expensive locations such as London.
