Yesterday i turned on the shower and 30 seconds later it tripped the circuit breaker off. I flicked the switch back on and turned it back on, this time it didn't trip but the water did not heat up correctly it was just lukewarm.

I opened the shower unit up today and there was alot of black carbon on the inside of it. totally dry thought so no water getting in.

Has anyone experienced this before and if so what was the solution. If i need to call out a plumber grand but if it is something i could tackle myself then i would give it a go.

Thanks in advance

Black carbon would indicate some burning, you need an electrician to check the unit first and disconnect it for a plumber if it is being replaced.

Electrician would also check back to your fuseboard that the correct grade of cable is installed.

Just a word of warning, an electric shower draws about 35amps (over have the juice allowed into your house) DO NOT MESS

My friends son was killed by one!

Thanks for the advice and i don't want to sound ungrateful, but i am not about to tackle a live shower. Black carbon can also b caused by the brushes on the motor which might be gone.

I am just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and if so what caused it for a couple of reasons.
1. if it was a simple component, these can be changed easily, with power off of course and
2. If call a professional, i have an idea what the problem is and am not taken for a ride as happens in this country.

Thanks anyway

How old is the shower? Triton have a hotline, ring them and ask them.
if the shower is under warranty they'll come out and fix the shower free of charge.

Might sound daft but open your shower head and check for limescale build up, what happens is, is that the limescale hold back on the water coming out that the motor overloads and trips out the shower.

we have had our shower fail like this and it was due to limescale build up. We live in a hard water area so its par for the course unfortunately. It also plays havoc with the hot water cylinder - element goes every couple of years..
