Other Travel insurance that would cover trip cancellation

We are hoping to visit my brother and his family in vancouver this summer. My niece was diagnosed with leukemia last year and whilst she is happily now in remission we are all still cautious.

He suggested we take out some insurance in case our plans need to change if she were to get sick again.

Can anyone recommend a travel policy that would pay out if we needed to cancel due to illness of a relative? or could something like this be covered?

You need a policy that includes trip cancellation and trip interruption benefits. There is also a requirement to declare pre existing medical conditions when taking out the policy. The condition has to be considered life threatening by a physician or require hospitalization in order for benefits to be paid. Allianz advertise such a policy but you need to check it thoroughly - there are probably other companies as well.
