Don't forget that Chinese written as you have above is transliterated and not translated.
They may well understand if you were to write it as 'gwang hway fit choy" or some other approximation of the Chinese pronunciation.
If their pronunciation of the transliteration doesn't sound right to them then they won't have an idea of what you meant.
Have you ever heard Chinese people try to pronounce Dun Laoghaire without having heard it pronounced correctly first ?
