Transfer 1996 Health Board pension contributions

I worked for 6 months as a permanent employee of a Health Board in 1996. I started teaching after that but was not pensionable until 1998. Am I correct in believing that I can cash those pension contributions in for those 6 months or is there any way to transfer them to my Dept Ed pension?

You should write to the Dept Ed. and ask about transferring your pension service from your former Health Board. It is not worth your while cash in at this stage, because you will pay dearly if at any time in the future you wish to buy back that service. Maybe you should contact your former HB as well, so as to cover your question from both sides.
