Anyone know what is required to become a valuer only - not estate agent or auctioneer?
From next january onwards, I will be carrying out site surveys on new houses - and it would be useful if I could offer a valuation service at the same time.

I know somewho who did just that, they did a Diploma of some sort in Waterford. Now having major problems getting on to the banks LIST of valuers..Check it out before you embark...

Thanks for that. If you happen to come across your friend, I would be interested to know if theres any course in the country that can be done on a part time basis/evenings,etc.(he would probably know).
Also would be interesting to see how he fares with the banks. Did he have any practical experience or straight from college?

I was kind of surprised that it took so long to qualify from what was mentioned on the IAVI site. If its too much hassle I may stick with what I have lined up.

I presume by 'valuer' you mean a chartered valuation surveyor? You can achieve this qualification (which is RICS & SCS approved) through the College of Estate Management www.cem.ac.uk - it's offered at distance learning and takes 2 years for the diploma, you then have to do your APC to get chartered.

If you do mean valuer and not surveyor, then the course he did would suit you.Its part time in the evening ,I think two eves a week and is in Waterford IT.It was a 2 year course.re the experience..no he has/had none, but has set up his own businness from home.I believe he is in contact with a lot of the brookers as aparently they also can recommend a valuer.
