Hi all...

Does anybody know if there's a good furniture shop in Dublin that sells traditional style leather Living Room suites???...

Badly need new Living Room furniture, and we've decided to push the boat out and get a nice leather suite...

I don't like the contemperory styles at all...

I'm looking for the old tradition style... You know the type, high seats, lots of deep buttons and winged chairs... Does anybody have any ideas of where I can source such furniture???...

Thanks in advance...

The 'Chesterfield' look. Used to have a suite ( bought it secondhand), it was very nice. It was comfortable to sit on but not to lie on. People ( children are people too) tend to do quite a bit of lying around on sofas in our house and these didn't quite fit the bill.

There are usually loads for sale both new and secondhand if you look for a 'chesterfield' suite. But try lying on them first.

Pique... Thank you... I never thought of DFS.... I'l check it out..... The type of thing I'm looking for is this... http://www.chesterfieldsdirect.co.uk/durham.html

Vanilla, thank you very much for the advice... I'll remember that... Mum and I both have significant disabilities, and we're careful about what we sit (or lie) on... That's half the reason that I'd love to get something like the above... We don't have children, so that's one less worry... A friend has a suite similar to the above, and we love it, but it was my friend's mum who bought it as a gift, and has since died, so I can't find out where she got it!... Second Hand is worth looking at... Need to be careful though... Mum's immune system's not great, so infection's got to be considered... Mind you, Anti-Bacterial sprays are easily sourced!...

Thank you both again....

Would very much appreciate any further advice from anyone!...

There are a few on donedeal- like this one

http://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/livingroom/1060596

or keep an eye on www.gumtree.ie, www.adverts.ie or www.buyandsell.ie for the second hand ones.

With a compromised immune system I understand you must be careful, but of course the good thing about leather is that it is capable of being disinfected thoroughly.

The suite I bought I actually had to fit new legs to as it was quite low to the ground and elderly people had trouble standing up from it but each suite would be different anyway.

Thank you very much, Vanilla...

I'll certainly keep an eye on that... (NOT showing Mum that one on DoneDeal... It's too pink for my taste, but Mum LOVES pink!)...

Good point about leather being easily disinfected.... That's part of the reason I want leather rather than fabric... Mum's on Home Dialysis, so easily disinfected is a must!...

Thanks again...

Hiya Darth

I too was looking, at one stage, for such a leather suite to replace the one I have. I found Saxon Leather Upholstery Limited, on the net. www.saxonleather.co.uk. I made tentative enquires and they sent me a brochure, (47 pages), together with two leather swatches in colour of my choice. If you would like to have this brochure I can forward it to you - just to give you a ballpark figure of costs etc.
It also gives dimensions which might be helpful if you are getting quotes from anywhere else. I have no connection with the company. I may be wrong, but the leather on that suite on DoneDeal seems to be faded in patches, on cushions and on arm rests. Doesn't appear shaded on the new chairs! I've heard of this happening with other leather suites. Might be a thing to check on when buying a leather suite.

Btw, some the furniture upholsterers also make these suites her in Ireland - not sure if they do them in leather though. You could try ringing Zhivago's upholstery suppliers and ask them if they have a list of manufacturers.

Cheers

Hi Sally...

Yes, I was looking at the Saxon Leather site.... Of course, It would be in the UK... I was hoping for somewhere in Dublin, but it now looks like I'll have to look further afield... Saxon Leather seem to have EXACTLY what I'm looking for...

I noticed the same fading on the one on DoneDeal... Besides, it's pink... Not a snowball's chance in Hell!...

Thanks for your help....

LOL. It's not the greatest colour, I'll admit. But new suites are put up on donedeal and the likes every day of the week so, unless you are bent on getting a new one ( in which case you can get exactly what you want anyway), I'd keep an eye out.

New chesterfield leather suites are really expensive, although I suppose if you treat them right they could last a long time.

Hi Vanilla...

Mum used to dress me like a flipping Christmas Tree in pink when I was a kid... She even managed to get pink shoes through a friend who was Italian... This was at a time, and in an area of Dublin where, at the time, it was cosmopolitan to wear brown sandals... With socks!!!!!..... I now firmly believe that pink is Satan's own creation!...

I just have to hope Mum doesn't see that suite, though!....

I'll certainly keep an eye open... I think we should get a while out of a good suite... There's only the two of us adults in the house...

Thanks again...
