Husband just got his p60 for 2008 and it looks like he earned more than expected. Normally most of the credits are allocated to me in order to keep me below the standard rate cut off point but that means him earning more than expected means it looks like he has been paying at the higher rate. I was on unpaid maternity leave in 2008 so earned less than normal. Is it too late to switch this over to him so that he can get refunded on the tax he paid at the higher rate?

Just submit your P60s to the Revenue and ask for a balancing statement.

As you are jointly assessed, they will ensure that you get the best use of the standard rate band and will issue a refund.

File a tax return as soon as possible and you will get a refund of the overpaid tax via balancing statement

There is a very simple form (1 page in which you simply tick the boxes and sign) available in revenue in offices in dublin anyhow. It doesn't seem to be available on line. It's called "Request for a P21" and is ideal for PAYE persons with no other income. Simply tick the boxes and attach copies of P60's, Med 1.
This will deal with any refunds due and give you a P21
