Hi all,
Looking at purchasing a t/f house which was built about 1984. Structually it has been given the thumbs up by a surveyor. My question is does anybody else have a T/f houses dating back 25yrs or so; how are the insulation qualties. its fibreglass in the walls of the house im looking at. is this good or bad in todays climate? planning a complete over haul of the house reboarding / skimming etc as walls covered in wall paper and ceilings stippled just wondering has anybody encounterd any problems with T/f etc? or is there anything to look out for.

thanks in advance for replys.

Re: Timber Frame 25 year old??

I THINK YOUD BE WELL ADVISED TO GET A THERMAL CAMERA SURVEY DONE OF THE tf....

oops sorry about the caps....

This would show up any sagging / gaps etc in the construction and pinpoint exactly where you need to get at to upgrade the insulation.

Make sure they know who manuefactured the timber frame as the house insurrance will require this information.

Syd is right Lynx.

An Infrared survey is the only non destructive way of finding out what state the insulation in the house really is. There is a chance with Timber Frame that insulation may have sagged. This test is done in conjunction with an air tightness test so that along with displaced or missing insulation the camera will identify areas of air infiltration ie draughts.

Thanks, we're just a bit sensitive in this area. We've been notified of touting happening via PM in the past, and these users have been banned. Looks like one of these is now subject to legal proceedings for sub-par work.
