Timber floor rising.

Have a solid floating timber floor that is rising. Glued together. Skirting dow. Dont mention to go back to the guy who put it down. Its in a square room. How will i approach this.?

My best guess is this floor doesn't have enough expansion room and so it is expanding.

Remove the skirting and chop the boards till you have 15mm between the boards and the walls.

That should solve your problem!
 
Had a similar problem previously and similar to you the Guy that put it down was a complete waste.

You will have to take off skirtings and then up the floor around the entire edges and refit new boards shaving the sides off to ensure they are not tight to the wall. Make sure the boards are 100% dry before fixing.
 
We had that problem as well. My husband had to lift the worst of the boards and shave the edges till they would fit. He lifted the skirting boards as well. I think the expansion amounted to a couple of inches all round. It's middling ok now. When the boards were put back down they had to be nailed as well and he isn't here for me to ask what the name of those nails were - they weren't ordinary nails.
 
Coolaboy. I fail to understand as to why you are not able to go back to the person who fitted it originally, especially if he was paid. He is responsible for making a mess of it - he should be held to put it right.

The reasons most people don't want to go back to bad tradesmen is they either know them and got it done for nothing or they can't find the person who put it down or it was the person complaining who put it down and doesn't want to admit to making a pigs ear of it.

To the OP there are 2 ways of taking the edge off the floor.

1. You can take the skirting off first and then use a hammer and chisel to chop the edges off back to 15mm away from the walls.

2. There is a machine the cuts 10mm off the ends of doors while they are still hung, if you lay the machine on its side you could cut sideways and take 15mm off. This method would be unorthodox in the extreme and should not be attempted by non-professionals.
