Tiling on top of an already tiled floor.

Some time ago I put a wooden floor on a tiled floor using the correct levelling compound etc and it worked very well but I've had a leak and the floor will have to be replaced. As this could happen again, I'm considering putting new tiles on top of the original ones on the floor instead of new wood. Is it ok to do this? Any pit falls?

When we did it in the bathroom it raised the tiles too much and at one edge they can be quite rough/sharp.

We tiled over existing tiles three years ago, looks great, no problems at all, just be sure to get a good tiler, ours is brilliant

If you have already leveled the floor correctly under the wooden floor you should have no worries. But you may have to apply some polybond before tiling again to give the new adhesive extra grip. Also depending on the thickness of the old timber floor you may have to adjust the door

Thanks for all the replies. Will bear everything you said in mind. I have a very good tiler who has worked for me last year lined up also.
