Tiling - HUGE diff in price of adhesive/grout?

Hi

I've been getting tiling quotes. Rapidset flexible adhesive comes in 20k bags and I've had prices of €56, 47, and 27 per bag from different places. Same type differences with grout too ..... €28, 25, 14 per 10k bag

Could there really be such a difference in quality of different makes of adhesive? Could they be inferior products?

There can be huge differences. I got my tiles from one of the discount tile shops, but my tiler told me to get the adhesive & grout from Atlantic....from memory it was about half the price. This is where these places make the bulk of their money.

Dang - wish I knew that a few days ago having paid €40 a bag for flexi adhesive!
 
I have been quoted 400 euro for flexi tile adhesive for tiles 40 yards sq, i am putting over underfloor heating, still it seems a big expense, is the shop ripping me off?

Hi Caity. Welcome to askaboutmoney.com I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I was quoted €55 per 20kg bag for flexi today but he said he'd give it to me for €44 - tiler's price. I have 60 sq yds and he said I'd need 12 bags plus (€660+). My tiler figured I'd get away with 10 max. Your quote seems to be along the lines of my one and I'd imagine you'll have to use thicker coverage with the underfloor heating. Do a bit of googling on DIY sites and see what they come up with with regard to coverage per bag of adhesive.
