Tiles for kitchen/ living area

I am refurbishing a 3 bed house. Intend running the one tile throughout the entire ground floor - including a living room, kitchen/dining area, small bedroom and small entrance hall. Intend using a cream coloured tile as the house is tightish on space and want to keep it bright.

However, Im not sure what type of tile to go for. I prefer the shiny look(porcelin?). However, a mate mentioned these could be slippy in the kitchen area. Cost is an important factor. The house will be rented out.

Any thoughts?

A friend had cream porcelain tiles in her entrance hall and kitchen, they were so slippy when you came in the front door, even with a mat there and they also showed up every little speck of dirt. I would suggest a more stone type tile, flecked with colour rather than cream, they can be quite bright too.
If a tenant slipped and broke a body part in the house and blamed the tiles then can they sue? Do you need to have some special public liability type insurance if you rent out? I often wondered this just out of curiousity.

hi, our house is a 3 bed semi too and we got polished porcelin tiles in the hall downstairs bathroom and kitchen, they look lovely but are a nightmare to keep clean espec the hall when it rains, all the muddy footprints- also very slippy when wet. personally I wouldnt get tiles in a sitting room, I think that could look a bit clinical and cold?
