hi - I'm qualified ACCA and was thinking of starting a book-keeping business from home - doing any aspect of book-keeping from bank recs, tax returns, to full sets of accounts.

I have several questions if anyone can assist (I'll probably ring the ACCA about it):

1. Do I need professional indemnity insurance ?

2. As I'm not a practice accountant and can't sign off on accounts as audited or perform audits but could bring accounts to completion to be signed by an auditor - is there any point in offering this service ?

3. I have no idea of the going rates - does anyone know where I could get that info or does anyone have any idea ?

4. Is it worth the potential hassle ?

5. Should I advertise as an accountant or book-keeper and how would I explain the difference in practise accountancy etc. to potential clients (generally people are confused by this).

Obviously this is all just pie in the sky at the moment I'm just considering my options !

1. Not sure if it is compulsory but what would you do if you get sued for negligence?
2. Small businesses and individuals often seek help with the day to day accounts of the business e.g. looking after PAYE/PRSI, VAT
3. It will depend on the market that you will be targeting
4. Only you can answer this one.
5. Keep an eye out for ads for part time bookeeper in local papers
