Thinking of moving to Kentstown

Hi, Im thinking of buying a house in Kentstown and would like some feedback good or bad

Although a very small village some parts of it are quite rough if you are actually in the village. Also I think a dump is going into the locality but cant be sure.

Hi,its just beside church there,I would be greatful if you could let me know more,have 3 children from teenager down commute isnt a problem mostly on the northside so dont think it would be too bad,seems nice and quiet but sometimes you miss the obvious although a lot of houses for sale in small area,

Hi,work mostly north side of city and socialise there also,wouldnt be often as we have 3 children,mostly wanted to know about just beside church,looks nice but a lot of houses for sale beside eachother,was wondering is there a reason????

There is quiet a difference between Kentstown old and new the new being around the church, I would think that the lack of facilities and amenities have lead to alot selling up mind you there is a hold up in the market everywhere. I would think that anyone moving there is looking for a sleepy village perhaps as it only have a pub and a shop, there is a chip van that stops there at the weekend, enough said there, It would not be my cup of tea as there are some beautiful alternatives and out lying villages around and within the Navan area that would be of a similar price, the best of luck regardless
 
Used to live there myself, i would not recommend it. It's quite a rowdy wee place in the evenings, both in the old estate and the newer one. There's nothing for the young people to be doing in the area, so this probably has a bit to do with it. I heard the rumours about the dump as well.
 
Thanks,We will have to think this one out,we want somewere quiet and relaxing but with something for kids to do at weekends,also not familiar with surroundings but commute didnt seem bad which is a big bonus as both of us work and the eldest wants to stay at his own school stressful time thanks for your help
 
Thanks rowdy as in loud or troublesome,living in quite a built up area on the northside so the idea was to move out of a built up area to somewhere quiet,Eldest is just a teenager and others are young so wreckon its now or never,want somewhere to come home from work and relax and enjoy time with our kids,dont know now maybe its not such a good option,Thanks

Would you consider Ratoath? I moved here 3 years ago and love it. Doesn't feel a bit like Dublin but there's still a decent sized village with more shops/restaurants/amenities opening all the time. GAA and Rugby clubs, scouts etc. Still a good community feeling and not much trouble (although we do have one of the youngest populations in the country so that may change when all our "little angels" grow into teenagers!)
 
I live quite close to Kentstown and would not recommend the place. Kentstown is one of those places that used to host a pub, a church, a school and a small housing estate until somebody sold a bit of land, a developer put up the houses and an auctioneer marketed it as a lovely rural retreat etc. The reality is that there was nothing special about the place before and adding some new houses has done nothing to change that.
Make up your own mind about the locality but the main thing as far as I can see is the isolation. It is only about 7 miles from Navan but there is no transport service. You are going to spend half your life driving the kids into town and the traffic jam that tends to builds up just outside Navan is going to do your head in after a while. If you really fancy living in that part of the country then have a look at one of the big developments about 5 miles down the road towards Navan. Ballis Downs and Johnstown Wood are a walkable distance from Navan town and offer decent leisure facilites.


 
I thought I'd BUMP this rather than start a new thread. Since the above posts were made 7 years ago I was seeking a fresh perspective on the village of Kentstown. Is it still considered quite rough. It looked lovely when we took a drive through it one sunny Saturday afternoon. A quiet village with shop, pub, church and within easy reach of navan. What type of people are living there and should it be avoided?
 
As someone who is currently living in Kentstown I feel its a lovely area and a nice place to bring up children. I have lived here for 7 years and have never once seen any antisocial behaviour, I do however work so dont really be home during the day. The people are friendly and houses are good value for money unlike surrounding overpriced areas my children have lots of friends and the local school is very good with lower numbers to teacher ratios. There is a local GAA club and Karate club for the children and teens to get involved in and an excellent montessori also. Balrath woods is close by and excellent for picnics and walks. Navan town centre is a short drive away and so is Drogheda and Ashbourne. In relation to the evening herald article posted above one its an article from 2011 and two people like that don't s#$t on their own doorstep never any trouble in relation to that. Every area has good and bad points don't let anyone sway you. Drive around during the day and evenings and dont be afraid to ask locals and shop owners

Rather than start a new thread, thought I might refresh this one. Anyone have any updates on what life is like in Kentstown in 2022?
 
Hasn’t changed, one pub, one shop and one church and a lot of Dublin brethren living there. Plenty sport areas but little walkways.
