I returned from the USA to care for my ill father, he has since passed away. I am now presently unemployed and have been for the last two plus years, i am thinking of going back, is there any assistance / help available to me or can i claim anything for signing off the dole. This would be helpfull towards my air-fare.
Why
I'm sorry for your loss and your current situation.
But if you are struggling to get the airfare together, I would personally counsel you to wait and save before you go to the states.
Things are pretty grim there right now. Unemployment isn't much lower than Ireland. There is a significant chance that you will have to live off savings for months before you get a job.
It sounds like you don't have any savings at the moment.
So could you continue job hunting here, saving what you can and planning for a return to the US?
Perhaps you could send out feelers in the US while you are still based in Ireland or even make a job hunting trip of a few weeks, when you find a good airfare.
Thanks Mommah,
Things aren't quiet that bad. I have a green card and can get work in the States once i'm there and i can afford a ticket (just) I am just wondering can i claim anything for signing off the dole. I would like to stay here but i think work here is very unlikely now.
Don't want to be Mrs Downer...but what about accommodation food etc
I went to the US during the boomtimes, with a green card and accommodation (with friends) and it took me about 6 weeks to get work. Once I did things rocked but I needed money to get through the waiting.
