"the highly competitive world of the homelessness charities!"

Okay. I still don't get why you asked about schools or hospitals.
Because your mini-conversation above with Brendan was clearly predicated on Brendan's perceptive comment about the Catholic input into his own education and healthcare. You literally quoted extracts from that in the comment I queried you on.

Guys we had to close this important thread because of off topic discussions.

Can you start a new thread in Letting Off Steam if you want to continue to discuss the Catholic ethos in schools and hospitals.

From The Dublin Inquirer:

Several millions paid in relation to Avalon House, Aungier Street - doesn't appear to have housed a single homeless person - it doesn't have necessary planning permission or fire cert. Unclear who the money is even being paid to, or why.

According to the finance reports the Dublin Region Homeless Executive (DHRE) paid €2.36m for Avalon House in 2020, €2.3m in 2021 and €2.4m in 2022. It notes the service provider through those years as the Peter McVerry Trust.. A spokesperson for the DRHE says the building is not currently used for anything, but that the Department of Housing has approved funding for renovations so it can be used again.

Did they actually finance Avalon House directly tho? My understanding is that the capital borrowings for AHBs (which PMVT comes under) finances the borrowings to purchase buildings for use by the charity, but the DHRE is paying for *services* rendered. Think its the Housing Agency which oversees the capital purchase scheme they use?

The article doesn't mention anything about capital financing / purchase of the property... The article was raising questions as it wasn't clear why DHRE were paying the monies or even who the recipient of the monies were. But that DHRE noted PMVT as the service provider.

The article says that the owner of the property is a fund:

In May 2022, the property was sold for €45.6 million, https://www.propertypriceregister.ie/Website/npsra/PPR/npsra-ppr.nsf/eStampUNID/UNID-DF3880B29661D88A80258877005AACF6?OpenDocument (according to the) Property Price Register. A planning document from June 2022 lists the owner as Irish Social Housing Fund 1, which is a sub fund of the Davy Platform ICAV. Who owned it directly before that is unclear. A planning document from May 2017 lists a now-dissolved company called Loughlinvest Limited as the landlord at that time.
