Hi

I love in a remote area and the water feed I get to my house is not great quality.

Any ideas on where I could go to check the quality of the water?

Thanks in advance!

The telephone number of the Galway - UCHG Public Analysts Chemical Laboratory is - 091 544002 - ask for reception or one of the chemists for further information on chemical testing - iron, manganese, heavy metals, nitrates, hardness etc.

The telephone number of the Galway - UCHG Pathology and Microbiology Laboratory is - 091 544 954 / 544404 - ask for any microbiologist in the water testing section for testing E.Coli and Coliforms, or if you have an untreated well and suspect recent sickness has been due to cryptosporidium, ask for an on site HSE water sampling visit.

If you use a private testing laboratory make sure they are INAB accredited and are independent of suppliers of water treatment systems.

In general beware of hand held test devices used in situ.

Is it your own well? If it is you could ring your local authority they will have details of labs you could use in the area or ask the HSE either?

If it's not a private well one of the above could test it for you.
