Test run of dishwasher to ensure it plumbed in right

So, got new dishwasher and got it plumbed in yesterday

While the plumber is still knocking around would it be good idea to run the dishwasher on a short cycle just to verify that the plumbing is done right and no leaks etc

If i do this, i was going to do it with no dishes in it - just run shortest cycle to test run it

Im right that if i do this i dont need to have any detergent, rinse aid or dishwasher salt in the machine or could i damage dishwasher by doing this short cycle with no dishes in it and no detergent, rinse aid or salt?

We got a new one recently and it was recommended to run it on empty first to clear out any dust etc that might accumulate during transport etc. Like when you buy a new kettle I suppose.
It didn't do ours any damage anyway, We used a dishwashing tablet alright just to clean it but no dishes

Did you have the dishwasher salt and/or rinse put in before you did this test run or was it just the dishwashing tablet you put in for the test run

I don't use salt and rinse aid at all, just the dishwashing tablet. The tablets contain all of that already, you don't need extra.

thats the main reason for machines breaking down, as someone who has bought and fitted litterally hundreds of dishwashers i have some experience, YOU NEED TO PUT SALT AND RINSE AID, SEPERATE FROM THE TABLET.

the tablet only has enough salt to clean the dishes not the pipes in the machine also

I've had a diswasher for 12 years donee and never used it. the only reason i got a new one was the button on the outside of the machine broke from over use by my DS!.... isn't the life expectancy of a dishwasher only about 5 to 7 years?
Would there not be a difference between hard and soft water having an effect on the machine?

My engineer said that in the Dublin area we don't need salt in our dishwashers because the water is soft. It's the same reason why Guinness is made here too.

as a tee totaler but is'nt Guiness only made here in a concentrate. and I'd question YOUR engineers knowledge of Dublin water quality

Dublin water is soft - you don't need to be an engineer to find that out !
