currently doing a job in work that is a temp position I'm a fulltime employee.I used to work a swing shift and used to get paid shift allowance. In this new job its all days as it was above my grade i got a pay increase to bring up to that grade and losed my shift pay.
If I am to return to my orginal job can I keep this increase in my base pay or can they take it back from me.

i doubt it, unless its civil service (they seem to the observer anyway to make up the rules).
If you go back to your origional job of your own accord you will get the shift allowance again but not the higher grade amount as you won't be on that grade anymore.

Not strictly accurate. Normally in the Civil Service if you 'act up' to a higher grade, you get paid the additional salary for as long as this arrangement continues. However once the reason for the original vacancy is resolved, the acting-up ends and the person returns to their original grade, and salary.
