Tech Stocks risky investment ?

i have a lump sum to invest and am very tempted to buy some shares in google, apple and several other tech stocks. i have seen a significant return on investment in these shares over the past two years. i am concerned however that any tech stock would carry a high risk with in by nature. i think i might be missing out by being over cautious on tech
any opinions ?
