Taxable rental income vs rent-a-room relief

Hi guys,

I lived in my property for half of the year & leased it out for the remainder.

I've been told that if a person lived in the property for most of the tax year; they can declare the rental income for the remainder of the year under 'rent-a-room relief' although this doesn't sound right to me?

Is this accurate & is there any method of reducing the taxable rental income in this instance?
