Hey folks.

Am asking this on behalf of a friends kid. He called the Dept of Revenue today, but was left on hold for 15 mins. He is on a prepaid pay as you go mobile phone, so he couldn't stay on hold forever to get some info, so here goes.

He left Ireland 6 years ago after he did his Leaving Cert. He has never worked here, or payed PRSI/PAYE etc etc here. As a result, he has zero experience of filing and paying taxes in Ireland.

He returned here to live here last September. He is currently in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance. He has no other source of income. He is living off his JSA and savings while he looks for work. He is also doing a FAS course while he looks for work. He is living with his sister while he gets himself back on his feet financially.

What does he have to do to keep the Dept of Revenue happy regarding his tax status? What forms does he have to fill out, or info to declare to keep himself tax compliant? Or does he have to do anything at all seeing as he is not currently working?

Thanks.

If you don't have a job, no wage income, no earned income of any kind, no capital gains, then you do nothing.

There aren't any forms to fill in.

He should have a PPS number.
