My friend and his ex-girlfriend still own a house together and the tax return is due this month. Things are not very amicable (at all) between them.
Do they need to agree the house part of their tax return? My friend has arranged 2 small jobs in the house which he paid for and has receipts.
Does he need to ‘share’ these receipts with her so they have the same information or is this necessary?
Is there anything else he should be mindful of?

House is in joint ownership so both parties would be returning 50% of the rent as income. If the expenditure was incurred by 1 party than he/she can set-off the full expenditure against his/her portion of the RI on annual return. Receipts need to be kept and expenditure should be maintainence rather than capital to get 100% offset in 1 year.

HI Brendan,

Thanks for your reply. So he can just do his own tax returns and use his own expenses without disclosing them to his ex?
