Hello,

Do you just ring the Revenue office and let them know you have bought a house and have a mortgage, or how does it work. The solicitor asked for our PRSI numbers but I think that was more to do with ridding us of our FTB status.

Also does anyone know about the Rural Renewal/Relief Scheme, our builder said they will be in touch with us regarding our relief, but should I contact the main office in Ballina myself?

Thanks in Advance

Re the Rural Renewal.. [broken link removed] may help. It provides contact details for further information.

I applied about two weeks ago and I got it today.
I was expecting it to take about 2 months!!

It will be no harm to ring the revenue and ask for the TRS (Tax releif at source) section .

They will probably ask you your mortgage details (ie) how much you pay , mortgage provider , mortgage account no. and then they will calculate how much tax relief you get .

They then send a tax cert to your mortgage provider who then devides the total amount of tax relief x 12 months and deducts this amount from your monthly mortgage repayments.

Hope this helps.

You can apply online to claim mortgage interest relief for the current tax year on www.revenue.ie . You will see the link at the bottom of the Revenue homepage.
