Tax relief for Botox?

I'm trying to get information as to whether there's any tax relief for Botox treatment that's not cosmetic. I know it states on this page that it's excluded - https://www.revenue.ie/en/personal-...th-expenses/what-are-qualifying-expenses.aspx

But I'm wondering would it cover Botox for the condition Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). My daughter suffers from this condition and it's really holding her back in life, both socially and academically at school. I think the average costs are around €500 per session, which will have to be done each year.

would it not go in under medical expenses, has it being recommended by her doctor.

I see no reason why the treatment would be disallowed if it meets the criteria laid down for medical treatment expenses on the Revenue page.

I've contacted Revenue directly to find out as well. She hasn't had a consultation yet, but hopefully it will help her case.

The Revenue Guidance doesn’t refer to your daughter’s circumstances though.

I would be very happy claiming tax relief as the Botox is not being used for cosmetic purposes.

Personally I wouldn’t bother going to Revenue. You might be lucky and get someone with more than half a brain; but equally you might get a fanatic who thinks Revenue’s job is to collect as much tax as possible rather than the correct amount of tax.

I would be confident this medical expense is allowable. Just ensure the Receipt states the condition / purpose of treatment, or have a letter from consultant confirming.

I wouldn’t ask revenue to confirm either.
