Only PDF versions on the revenue website, does anyone have a read only word version where the details can be typed in?

Registering is definitely the way forward but doesn't help millertime in the short term.
Maybe just contact the Revenue if nobody has a word doc equivalent of the PDF?
You could also just convert the PDF to a Word doc (using freely available downloadable software - Google it), complete it and send it on??

Don't think that can be done, you usually have to post them the TR2 form with Memo/Arts etc..

Convert it by buying the PDF writer program available from Adobe.

PDF's are generally made from word and then there is a convert button inside the Word document.

I thought that at least self employed income tax was self assessed?

Yes, but to register for any self-assessed tax heading in the first instance (ie on start-up of a new business, getting VAT registered, or becoming an employer for the first time etc, the taxpayer must file a paper Form Tr1 with their district tax office. They cannot use ROS for this purpose.
