Tax Refund question

Hey all,
Basic question and I've tried finding out exactly where I stand with it online but cant seem to find a definitive answer.

I'm currently working full time and paying PAYE, PRSI & Income Levy.
Planning on ceasing my current employment at the end of April 2011 to go travelling. My net salary is 35k leaving me with gross of 2916 p/m or 11,666 in total up to April next year.

Will I be entitled to claim back all PAYE, PRSI and income levy for 2011 when I cease employment here in Ireland due to tax credits? This should be a sizeable enough sum if so and whether or not I can get this back will impact on my planning for travelling.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks!!!

Hi browneg3

you can claim back PAYE and the Income Levy but I don't think you will be able to claim back the PRSI. Any unused tax credits from end of April to end of tax year can be claimed back. You should bring your P45 to the local tax office when you finish up. Inform them that you are going travelling for the remainder of the year and they will process your refund. As your total income will be less than the threshold for the Income levy you will also be able to claim this back but you might have to wait until the end of the tax year for this.

You can also claim some PRSI refund if you qualify : see this
Possible refund of Health Contribution

Where an employee's weekly pay fluctuates above and below €500, but the annual pay during 2010 is not more than €26,000, the employee may claim a refund of the 4% or 5% Health Contribution deduction.
Employers may, if they have capacity within their payroll systems, refund any overpayment of the Health Contribution to their employees as an end of year adjustments. If an employer cannot make this adjustment the employee may claim a refund of the Health Contribution deduction after year end, 31 December 2010, from:
