Tax Refund -Non EEA National

Hi Everyone,

Please can anyone here give me a bit of advice. I had a 3 months contract work in Ireland btw august and november 2015, thereafter I went back to my home country and worked for another 1 and half months remotely for the same company.

While I was here, I was initially given some tax credits which was later withdrawn when I provided foreign income of my spouse who lives in my home country. I posted a thread on it then. After the withdrawal I was taxed heavily as all my income was taxable at 40% and USC was charged at 8%. I still don't understand or have an explanation for this.

My monthly take home was about Eur 2700 but after the withdrawal, it reduced to Eur 1800 on a gross pay of Eur 45000 per annum (It devastated me over 50%)

My contract with the company ended in December while I was in my home country. The last one and half month, the same highest tax was still applied. I got my p45 from the company and I'm hoping if there is a possibility to have some tax refund even as a non EEA National.

My gross pay in the employment based on p45 is EUR 16,381.96,
Tax Deducted EUR 4,184.42
USC Deducted EUR 1,094.99
Total PRSI EUR 2,416.32

Was thinking of filling the p50 form for an assessment and send to revenue. The last time I updated my details and spouse details with revenue that was when I was taxed heavily hence I have similar fear that the response is I may have some more money to pay.

I am Currently on contract with an Irish-based company doing some work in my home country and I am paid locally in my country while I have to sort out my tax in my country. Does it stop me from seeking a tax refund as I'm no more tax under the Irish tax system.

I'm also considering using one of the taxback consultants like taxback or Irishtaxrebates etc but I'm not sure if this will be wise

Can someone please advise based on your experiences on what I can do or if there is a possibility of getting some tax back.

Thanks

If your annual salary (gross) was €45K then your monthly take home pay should be €2,791. Are you sure you weren't on emergency tax. Also your tax credits are applied on a monthly basis assuming you will work a full year. So since you only worked 4 months you missed out on 8 months. You can fill put a p50 4 weeks after you finished your job

Thanks Dub_Steve,

I was not on emergency tax. Initial when I got my tax certificate, I had tax credits and my take home was €2,741.71 but reduced to €1,794.59 after I got a revised Tax certificate stating that the tax credits were withdrawn and "rate band is decreased by allocation to other income" (when I provided my spouse foreign income details to revenue) which I believe was wrong also.

Just a quite question, since I'm working in my home country now. Can I still fill the p50? It doesn't matter if I'm in contract employment in my home country but with an Irish based company

Thanks
