I'm considering employing a live-in childminder. She will be paid 250 euros a week by me. I believe my contribution to her PRSi would be another 20 euros a week.

Now a friend tells me that live-in childminders or au-pairs may be exempt from paying tax/prsi but i don't see this anywhere on the OASIS website - has anyone heard of this - or perhaps its older legislation that my friend is referring to?

I don't actually know if "living in" has any bearing, but at €250 per week, there will be no employee PRSI and the employer PRSI will be quite modest. I don't have figures to hand, but we have a full time childminder, whom we pay more than €250 per week, and she is just barely into paying employee PRSI. I seem to recall that our employer PRSI was as little as €10\week, but this info may be out of date.

Anything here Scroll down to PRSI contribution Rates. There may be slight changes in the recent budget
