Tax on Rental Income

We forgot to pay Tax for the year 2020 on a property we are renting out, Due to getting Covid and a bereavement it totally slipped our mind until we received a letter from Revenue last month stating according to their records, we have not filed our income Tax returns (Form 11) for 2020. We are now worried of the extra penalties and interest incurred in not filing as we don’t have enough savings to pay any large amount now due. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks

File it now. You'll be surcharged by 10%, ie if your tax bill is €2,000, you'll pay €2,200, but unlikely to be levied interest.

You can ask for the surcharge to be waived on foot of special circumstances, once the filing has been made.
