I was hoping someone could help me here. I am married and jointly assessed. My husband has been on the PUP payment since March last year as his industry has been shut down. We got new tax credits yesterday and they have not awarded him any SRCOP and have reduced mine by the amount of PUP he is receive this year so I can now only early 26k at 20 % they have also take his tax credits. Is this correct should he not have been awarded his own SRCOP and that been used to cover his tax liability on his current PUP payments.

Hi Citygirl, My husband was on the PUP for about 10 weeks last year and we got our amended tax cert yesterday. We are also jointly accessed, they've taken his tax credits and part of mine and reduced our SRCOP by €18,200. I'm so annoyed over this, i knew obviously the money would have to be paid back but I thought it would be over 2/3 years and not like this. Maybe go to revenue and ask to be assessed separately, you have to think of next year too. My husband came off the PUP after we seen our tax cert, he's been on it 4 weeks this year. I believe those that were in receipt of the salary top up have their tax credits amended over 2-3 years.

Surely you're worse off with your partner not on PUP?

They only gave us 44k this year and reduced it to 26k !! I’ll be on to them in the morning. Every year they mess up our tax credits and SRCOP it’s getting ridiculous at this stage

Sure, it was €70,820 now reduced to €52,620

The same thing happened to myself an my wife. She is on pup and it looks like they've reduced the SRCOP by the value of the pup if claimed for the year ie. 350*52. And they've reduced her tax credits by 20% of that. Its strange that this has been done without any publicity.

He'll be back to work in about 3 weeks time, i'd rather nothing coming in from not working than the taxes we'll be paying next year.
The reduction in credits etc is an estimate, based on your partner being on pup for the rest of the year. When he ceases being on the pup, this will all be sorted out.You can't be worse off by not claiming €350 a week you are entitled to.

If she's on the pup for the year, then this is accurate. Its like 18 grand of wages.(with a prsi saving)

Oh i thought it was based on last year. So when he's back in work the tax credits / rate band will be adjusted again?

What does SRCOP stand for !
