I was born and reared in N Ireland .My father set up an insurance policy for me when I was sixteen.I have now been living in the south of Ireland for eighteen years paying into this policy all the time .It is due to mature shortly and I am wondering will I be liable for capital gains tax here.

Foreign life assurance

Foreign life assurance policies since 2001 are taxed on the same basis as irish policies ie the standard rate(20) +3% if they are issued within the EU
If you look at the Form 11 there is a section 35 where you declare foreign policies.
You should check directly with the revenue on your policy, if you do not declare and pay the correct tax you are subject to 40% CGT.
