Hi

Does anyone know (or know where to find) the different amount of taxes you'd pay in the different economies on your wages.

For example for every €100k earned; the amount of paye/prsi taxes you would have to pay in Ireland, UK, Canada, Australia, NZ, etc...

If I am going to emigrate; I would like to make sure I am comparing apples with apples; certainly in respect to after tax wages...

Thanks

It is not that simple because in many countries the tax system differs from region to region and even town to town! For instance if you were to move to the area round Geneva you would pay about 20% more per annum than if you were to live in the Swiss Jura and so on. This is the case in many European countries where taxes are paid primarily at local rather than national level.

And it is not only taxes you need to look at but the whole work life balance - for instance with the exception of the UK & Ireland, in most EU countries you are not expected to work beyond the contracted hours and if you do you will be fully compensated for the time. For instance just a cross from my office is a very large building site and those guys work 7:00am to 4:00pm with a half hour for lunch unpaid and two paid 15 min breaks, but by 4:10pm the place is like a graveyard - not a sound to be heard! I've even seen large pieces of masonry hanging from cranes when those boys downed tools.
