Hi ,my partner and I have lived together for the last 6 years. We have one child and are not married. My partner was made reduntant and recently was approaching the end of her period on job-seekers benifit. She (we) were means tested for job seekers allowance and were turned down on the basis that I earned € 5 too much per week.
I have no problem with any of the above, however when I looked to go about trying to claim her tax credits I was told I could not as we were not married. How can it be legal for one arm of the state to deal with you jointly (social welfare) and another (revenue) to refuse to?
