Tax credits for new partner

Hi All,

I am separated from my husband (though no legal separation has been signed as yet) for the last 2 years. Revenue are aware that we are living apart and have separated our tax affairs so we each have our single allocation of tax credits back.

I have a new partner now who has moved here from the UK and is unemployed, making him dependent on me for financial support.

Is it possible to have his tax credits applied to my salary?

This is from Revenue. If you are not married or in a civil partnership you are assessed as a single person.

for income tax purposes in the same way as couples in a marriage or civil
partnership are treated?
No, you are assessed as a single individual. Joint or separate assessment can only be
claimed if you are married or in a civil partnership.

2.2 Am I entitled to claim joint assessment if I am living with my opposite sex
partner?
As civil partnership registration is confined to couples of the same sex you do not qualify
for joint assessment and are assessed as single individuals.
