Hi

I was just wondering how tax credits work in the following situation.

Currently I am working here and taxed as married dual income.
But my partner is now emigrating and will not be returning to Ireland as things currently are.

How do I handle my tax status from this point on, will I be taxed as:
-married one income
-married dual income

or can I use his tax credits to reduce my tax liability, how does this work?

Thanks
Nic

I imagine that if your partner is no longer tax resident in Ireland, you will be taxed as a single person.

If you are resident of Ireland for tax purposes and your spouse is non-resident, you must be taxed as single persons i.e. you will not be entitled to his share of the tax credits. You should advise your tax office of this change in circumstances so that you don't claim tax credits to which you are not entitled
