Hi, hope i'm posting this in the right place! Basically, I have been on Maternity leave since the end of December. The paid section of my Mat leave is up (ended in june). I never transferred my tax credits to my husband. Can I still do this and if I do, can he claim tax back for the period Dec 09 - june '10? Hope this query makes sense!

If you are jointly assessed you can ring the tax office and transfer your share of tax credits for 2010 to your husband.

For 2009 or earlier you will need to get Revenue to review your tax liability for any overpayment. This can usually be done by request a P21 balancing statement from Revenue.

Would you not have been using your credits while still being paid between December and June? You will get them backdated to June, but don't think you'll get any more than that as you've already used them.

As long as you're jointly assessed, you can do a P21 at year end to get both your tax balanced and any money you're owed between you back.
