Tax allowance for employing a carer

I was trying to fill out the form hk1 for my father. He has employed a carer to look after him.

The revenue site says that you can fill it out during the year or at the end of the year. They will adjust the credits based on the allowance (I think that is only if you send it in during the year).

If I send it in now, do I just estimate how much the carer would be for the year? The "total costs" section doesn't seem to have enough spaces for more than EUR 9999 total cost. (In theory, the limit per year is 50k).

Any help would be appreciated.

The form is at (Remove spaces, I can't link until I have 15 posts)

Hi ivnryn. I recently filled out the HK1 form. Yes, there are not enough spaces if your claim is above 9,999....I just added a box to the left and then filled in the 5 figures.

I was claiming for 2011, but if you want to send in a claim for the current year then an estimate will do, and they will balance up at the year end on your P21 Balancing Statement. ( prob best to underestimate slightly and not get a shock if you find you owe Revenue at year end)
