I'm wondering is it a big job to take up tongue and groove ( hope i'm saying it right) flooring and putting it back again? What kind of cost would it be? I've a problem under the floor boards. thanks

Plumbers / Electricians frequently lift and then put back T&G floorboards to get pipes / wires from A to B, it is not a big issue.

Can you elaborate on what the problem is ?

problem is banging - seems to be happening under the floor so i think the pipes underneath are not fitted or attached properly. Happens when heat is turned on and again when turned off. can be quite loud. after the heats on a while its quiet but you might get the odd crack

this happens in my house too. Pipes expand when they get hot and move. Nothing to worry about if you can ignore the noise!

hi, the problem is i'm finding it hard to put up with it? I'm thinking of applying for the home improvement grant to get this done but am wondering about the cost.

mine were easy to take up as they were not tongue and groove, just floorboards. I put insulation around some of the pipes and stopped some of the noise, but hard to stop it completely. In some places the pipes are running right under the floorboards so no room for insulation. I'd have to hack out some more space in the joists to let the pipes down lower, which would be a lot of hassle and might weaken the joists.

I had a banging noise in the water pipes like this a few years ago. The cause was connected with the flow of water to or from the cylinder.

We got a plumber to fix it. No floorboards were lifted.
