Surveyor v's Engineer

Can someone clarify the exact difference between a Building Surveyor and a Structural Engineer. Am I correct in thinking that it would be better to use an Engineer for checking for any defects with the property?

as to which is better for assessing defects, id say the surveyor....
if a defect is deemed to be structural, then the engineer would provide the solution.
