Hi all,
Im putting a loft into my shed at home. The largest area I have to span is 20'x20'. There will be no major weight on this floor. It will mainly be for storage but I'd rather make it strong.
I'm guessing that I'll have to run an RSJ down the middle and run 9''x2'' floorjoists at right angles to the RSJ.
My concern is what size should the RSJ be given the 20' span? I have an RSJ at home with a depth of 7'' (i.e. a web depth of 7'') thats long enough to do the job but Would this RSJ be sufficiant?
I have looked into a metal web flooring system but the cost is too high.
Maybe someone with structural engineering knowledge might guide me!
Thanks.
