I have the same type wardrobes in my 3 bedrooms that came prebuilt when I bought the house.

anyway, the veiner covering has come off a number of the doors leaving what looks like smooth type wood (could be plywood or chip wood type stuff)

Now I want to paint these rather then the expense of replacing the veiner.

any recommendation of what type of paint I should use. do I need an undercoat?

i am 99% sure it is mdf. You will need an MDF sealer, then an acrylic undercoat followed by the final topcoat x 2. I would recommend colortrend or if no problem with budget i would go for Farrow and Ball paint. It is excellent quality

Thanks Nediaaa for the prompt reply. MDF does indeed sound right. was hoping of some wonder one coat type stuff. hate diy.

Colourtrend will do the job excellently.

Don't think I'd bother with a sealer or varnish myself.

I've painted a good bit of piney furniture & mdf shelves over the last while, using a basic emulsion such as that sold for ceilings. Slap on about 2 coats; then 2 coats of your paint.

The soft sheen finish from Colourtrend looks well on woodwork.
