Is there legislation in Ireland or the UK that stops a subordinate being paid more than a person above them? Have tried google but its a jungle out there!

Thanks

No legal reason a superior has to be paid more than a subordinate

Do they have specific skills or domain knowledge that are in demand? Just because you manage them doesn't mean you are more valuable. Even if you are more valuable, you get what you negotiate.

There is nothing to stop a subordinate being paid more than the person they are reporting to.

Indeed in many parts of the private sector you may not even know what other people in the organisation are being paid!

Instances in the public sector also where a subordinate will be paid more than the manager due to service etc...

Thank goodness for that.
