Im looking to study the irish language, im 28 and only have unti leaving cert level, i am interested in making it a possible career change more than likely into teaching. Is it possible to do part time and are the big universities like Trinty the only places it can be done?
If anyone has any info or can point me in the right direction that woud be great.

You may get some useful information from Conradh an nGaeilge or Gael Linn.

Also, you might consider private tuition. Plenty of schoolteachers give such tuition in their spare time and would really have the expert knowledge based on what you are looking for. If there is a Gaelscoil in your area, you may consider contacting them to see if any of their teachers do this kind of tutition. May also open doors in terms of meeting people in the profession & you could learn a lot more than just Irish !

You need to get an honour in Irish Leaving Cert Higher level to go to St. Pats along with two other higher level honours. I dont think part-time is available anywhere for primary shool teaching.
There is an Oral Irish interview before getting into St. Pats.
Is it Primary shool you're looking for. If not and you have a degree you only need to complete an 18 month H Dip to become a teacher.

Part time course options can be found on all the college websites.

Gael Linn on Dame Street, Conradh na Gaeilge on Harcourt street and Gaelchultur in Temple Bar all do courses throughout the year for various levels of Irish. Its usually conversation based teaching and theres no exams or Certs.

brialliant, ive contacted Gael Linn and recieved some info, thanks a million.
